General Woodworking Company

Founded in 1910, this Morgantown-based lumber company continuously operated until its closure in the 1990s. It was originally located at the corner of 4th Street and Beechurst Avenue. By the early 1920s, it had become the city's major supplier to local builders. The company also constructed many of the fine homes and commercial buildings in the Morgantown area. In 1924, the company moved to a newly constructed plant in Westover, which featured a full-sized showcase house on its roof. A model of the showcase house is on exhibt at the museum.
